Dr. Josh Ames has served pets and families in Upstate South Carolina since 2011 and has enjoyed every moment of it. He is originally from Fort Myers, Florida where he grew up caring for many types of pets from dogs to rabbits to snakes. This is how he grew a love for taking care of animals of all kinds. This passion led him to earning his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the University of Georgia and achieving his ultimate dream of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at St. George’s University. Through his education, he traveled and lived in Grenada and Australia where he was able to be immersed in new cultures and learn about many other exotic animals.
During his career as a veterinarian, Dr. Ames has developed a special interest in surgery, internal medicine as well as small mammal and exotic medicine. Veterinary medicine has been a rewarding career and he has enjoyed giving back to the profession by serving on the Executive Board of the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians for seven years and on the 2016 AVMA Future Leaders Program. The most rewarding moments of his career has been receiving the Spartanburg Best of the Best Veterinarian in 2022, because this was voted on by the pet families he gets to help.
Dr. Ames is excited to have the opportunity to bring his veterinary experience and compassion for pets and people to Greer and the surrounding Spartanburg/Greenville area. His goal is to treat every pet as his own and give an amazing client experience to every family. Outside the clinic, Dr. Ames loves spending time with his wife, Kyle, and two children while building their hobby farm along with a large array of rescue pets. He is also an avid outdoorsman that enjoys scuba diving, hiking, camping, fly fishing and gardening. He cannot wait to meet you and your four-legged family at Sugar Creek Animal Hospital!
